Wassup thermidorks<? Those of you who attended CB Expo in Dortmund this past weekend will no doubt attest that it was an awesome event. Props to Ben Arn, the CB crew, all speakers and attendees for an excellent experience.

Stay tuned for our video take on how it all shook out! Until then, let’s dive into this past week’s news tings.

UK Medical Market -- 5 Years On

A new BBC documentary, Cannabis: Prescription Pot Luck, takes a look at medical cannabis 5 years after UK legalisation – and debates whether the British government misled the public over NHS prescriptions.

Those with BBC iPlayer access can watch the documentary here. And if you’re UK-based, and haven’t already, please sign and share this petition to raise government awareness (Rishi, take note).

Belgian Waffle?

Could Belgium be the next EU nation to legalise cannabis? Quite possibly – if the nation’s Deputy Prime Minister, Pierre-Yves Dermagne, manages to gather support.

Dermagne is quoted as saying: “The legalisation of cannabis is a solution to the problem of drugs and security in our cities.” Finally: a politician speaking the truth.

Corporate Cannabis C*ckblock

An organisation called the Cannabis Impact Prevention Coalition (CIPC) has served the New York State Office of Cannabis Management a lawsuit over the legality of a social equity fund.

The fund – said to be worth $200 million – is earmarked for bankrolling the opening of more cannabis stores across the state. The CIPC’s main argument is that the state would essentially be profiting from the proceeds of drug trafficking… until federal legalisation at least (really simple solution here)

Happy. Happy. Joy. Joy.

A new study of over 2000 people suffering from different chronic health conditions shows that those taking medical cannabis felt significantly better within 3 months; citing improved quality of life, reduced pain, and lower levels of anxiety and depression,

Tilray On Tap

We’ve seen Big Alcohol make plays for cannabis – but not really the other way around. Which makes Tilray’s ongoing acquisition of numerous US craft beer brands all the more intriguing. Does this need to diversify indicate a lack of confidence in cannabis? Time will tell.

Jersey Score

Finally, the state of New Jersey is getting its edibles act together. Its anomalous take on cannabis edibles – which restricts sales to syrups, pills, tablets, capsules and chewables – is coming to an end as legislators propose expanding the pantry to include baked goods, butters, drinks and other infused products.
