First time, huh? Certainly no shame in it, in fact, we’re rather jealous of you if you’ve never got to sample cannabis before. Just like a great album or film, many cannabis pros would love to experience weed for the first time all over again.

But with so many strains out there to choose from, and a market appetite to crank up the THC at every turn, what weed should you start with? Now, these are only suggestions but they might help you to start a conversation with a budtender who will definitely help you get where you want to go.

Orange Bud

A thrilling fusion of two skunk strains Orange Bud can be a great place to start for cannabis newcomers. The strain is a relatively potent yet still smooth award winner that gifts smokers with a euphoric and uplifting high led by its crisp orange flavours.

17% THC is nothing to turn your nose up at but even for nonsmokers, it is unlikely to leave you KO’d on a sofa. If, perchance, you’re thinking of growing as well as smoking for the first time, then this strain flowers in 7-10 weeks for quick turnaround yields.

Pennywise

No clowning around here (sorry, not sorry)! A high-CBD Indica cross between Harlequin and Jack the Ripper, wuite uniquely this strain contains a 1:1 ratio of CBD and THC, so the psychoactive effects are milder and more relaxing – perfect if you don’t want to go to a different planet.

Users comment that they experienced no anxiety and a particularly calming vibe that they haven’t found in other smokes. If you’re interested in trying out weed to get a body high alongside a head buzz then Pennywise might just be up your street.

Sticky Beast

Sticky Beast Automatic (automatic means it switches from vegetative to flowering based on age not light) is an Indica dominant cross that packs a healthy dose of THC and CBD – 16% and 3% respectively.

Now we mentioned that this was Indica dominant, 60% if you’re interested, but interestingly this features not only Sativa, 10%, but also Ruderalis, 30% – which means it's a true hybrid as robust as its name suggests.

Cannatonic

Flipping the script when it comes to THC/CBD balance, this absolutely wonderful strain packs all the CBD a newbie could ever hope for with a whopping 17%, just slightly levelled off with 6% THC.

With warm, numbing sensations all but guaranteed, this might just be our top pick if you want to get well and truly baked with a friend. Just remember to line up all the wildlife documentaries you can think of and keep the fridge well stocked(!).
